Upgrading appliances in High Availability must be performed from the Master appliance.
Until version 8.x, during the upgrade process:
1. The Hot Standby appliance was upgraded first. As upgrades stop and restart appliances, up
grading the Master first ensured that the appliances did not switch role and that the Master
appliance database was still available during the upgrade.
2. The Master appliance was upgraded once the Hot Standby upgrade was complete. Once the
Hot Standby was upgraded, the Master appliance could be stopped and restarted and no
switch was performed.
Since version 8.x, during the upgrade process:
1. The Master appliance is upgraded first. As the upgrade requires to stop and restart the
appliance, which would switch the appliances role, the automatic re-enrollment is ignored. In
addition, the Hot Standby appliance replication is stopped while its upgrade is scheduled.
2. The Hot Standby appliance is upgraded once the Master upgrade is complete. Once the
Master is upgraded, the Hot Standby appliance can be stopped and restarted for the upgrade.
This process ensures that the appliances do not switch roles and that the Hot Standby database
is available even during the upgrade. Note that: Once the appliances are upgraded, the page Services configuration might display different statuses as any service that was stopped is started when SOLIDserver reboots. Only disabled services are not started after an upgrade.
